Applications for “Chemistry at Work” Reach a Record High

Applications for places at our annual “Chemistry at Work” event in June have increased by over 50% this year and places for schools are almost fully booked. About fourteen 30-minute demonstrations will be running each day and over the three days we are expecting 600 students to attend in groups of 15 to 20 with their teachers.

16 demonstrations have been booked to date and we need 5 more. Any Companies, STEM Ambassadors, Student Teachers or Enthusiasts interested in taking part please contact us.

We are also expecting record applications for our Junior Event in October (see calendar). Schools who have not yet applied are advised to contact me quickly to avoid disappointment. For more information see the RSC’s short video of last year’s event.

Royal Society of Chemistry – Films

“Chemistry at Work” – Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre

Our popular “Chemistry at Work” event, running annually since 2000, will be taking place from Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st June 2012 at the Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre. It is open to students in Key Stages 3 & 4 of all abilities from Triple-Science to Special School students . Schools attend from 09.45 to 15.00 and the students (in groups of 15 to 20) experience eight demonstrations given by experts who show how chemistry and the related sciences are part of everyday life and work.

The Royal Society of Chemistry are producing a film of our Junior Chemistry at Work Event “REAL SCIENCE” and the similar event in Tilbury to advertise these events on their website. I will post a link to the resulting video when it is published.

Chemistry at Work at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School – Amersham

The demonstrators and the school enjoyed their Chemistry at Work day on Wednesday 16th November. Many demonstrators asked to be kept informed about our next Chemistry at Work days (see dates page ”look for more”). They said they would like to take part again and the school said they would like to host the event again in 2012, date to be decided.

REAL SCIENCE – RESULTS COMING IN

Thanks to all of the demonstrators, our “REAL SCIENCE – Junior Chemistry at Work” event in Milton Keynes was a great success. A total of 518 Year 6 pupils from Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire came and took part in the demonstrations in groups of about 15 to 20, over the three days. REAL SCIENCE – A Junior Chemistry at Work Event

Dates: Tuesday 18^th to Thursday 20^th October 2011

Venue: the Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre

This year we have increased this popular event from two to three days. Once again, it is open to Year Six Students from schools in Milton Keynes and surrounding counties as part of the Milton Keynes Science Festival. Therefore entry for schools is free of charge.

During each day the students will see eight 30-minute demonstrations showing science in everyday-life. Pictures of these events are published at www.ChemistryinAction.com/gallery.

Groups of 15 to 20 students, each with a teacher/group leader, will be accepted in order of application.
