He also gives demonstrations on eco-friendly health, fuel and water treatments.

His eldest son Phil, a post-graduate student who has just gained his MSc in Computer Science at Buckinghamshire New University, assists with the production of the event programmes and designs and maintains of this website.

Event Organising

Following a steady increase in demand, Derek now organises more than a dozen “Chemistry at Work” days annually, in local venues and in schools. Thanks to the many demonstrators who are now taking part, these events involve over 2,000 students age 10 to 15 annually. Derek also gives scientific demonstrations at other “Chemistry at Work” events.

Language Teaching

Derek is a Licensee of Le Club Français and teaches French to groups of children age 4 to 9 at Longwick C of E Combined School, through songs, games and “fun” activities using audio-lingual methods supported by Le Club Français. He also tutors students to GCSE level and works with adults seeking to begin or improve their French.

Heath & Safety Checking for Work Experience

Derek is trained to the “Managing Safely” standard of the “The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health” (renewed December 2009) and visits organisations offering Work Experience placements to pre-16 and post-16 students for the Buckinghamshire Education Business Partnership and Countec the Milton Keynes EBP to assess the placements offered.

Effects of Magnetism

Derek has studied some of the surprising and well documented effects of magnetism on different elements and occasionally gives scientific demonstrations showing possible explanations as to why it reduces domestic and commercial gas bills, increases vehicle fuel efficiency and has been shown to help healing in people and animals.
