The RSC has seen a sudden surge in requests to organise Chemistry at Work events in 2016 and while this is good news it has unfortunately lead to a some events not running. If your school has asked to host a Chemistry at Work event in 2016 but cannot do so please contact your Local Organiser as soon as possible.

Once again the annual Chemistry at Work event at AGS was a great success and this time we had a new demonstrator Karley Weir who  joined our team from TrichoCare and explained the chemistry of hair and the dangers of hair dyes with her demonstration entitled “Lovely Hair – Painful Skin. We had enough demonstrations on the day for most demonstrators to have a break and see their colleagues in action which they often tell me gives them ideas for delivering their own demonstrations.

St Michael’s Catholic School in High Wycombe are hosting the first C@W event of  the Summer Term and already nearly all the demonstration slots are filled. Several demonstrators are checking their work schedules to see if they can come and with these on board we hope to fill the event before Easter.

Chemistry at Work is expanding nationally and now local organisers and event participants can join our group at the Royal Society of Chemistry’s website: my.rsc.org. It provides an opportunity for teachers, demonstrators and event organisers to share experiences and suggest new ideas for the 30-minutes demonstrations to school children which we put on, see or or arrange.
