Once again the Chemistry at Work Day hosted by Aylesbury Grammar School proved very popular.

Their Year 8 students saw a typical wide range of demonstrations including: how the police use Chemistry, how bees use Chemistry and how important gel is in cosmetics (plus making it). Also how copper is refined and used, how poisons work on people and the solving of historic cases with Chemistry and  how we ensure the water in the swimming pools is safe, as well as the dangers of asbestos, including why we still use it, and the links between Chemistry & Psychology when we are under stress, and controlling this, plus the opportunity to learn about the many different types of earthworms and handling them.

As part of the Milton Keynes Science Festival, our three day REAL SCIENCE Junior Chemistry at Work event took place at the City Discovery Centre from 22nd to 24th October. We had 36 demonstrations running over the three days and each day the Year 6 pupils saw 8 of the daily 12 demonstrations and, once again, it proved very popular with all the schools who attended.

The 14th annual Chemistry at Work event for Year 7 to 11 students which took place at the Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre again proved very successful, with new schools coming from Leighton Buzzard and Luton. This event is becoming widely known, and this time we were able to include the BRE who recreated, in miniature, the types of fires they protect us from when they research building designs.

Thanks to the support of 19 demonstrators, several of whom demonstrated on all three days, we were able to put on a successful event for the nearly 400 students. At the last minute, two schools booked-in were unable to arrange transport etc.,  which sadly left spaces others schools could have taken!  However, the event went very well and one school is now asking to host a Chemistry at Work event at their school.
